Broad Creek Renaissance Hope VI Project .

Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) was awarded a $35 million federal Hope VI grant to tear down the Roberts Village and Bowling Creek public housing projects to create a new mixed-income community. The new neighborhood is named Broad Creek Renaissance after a nearby body of water. The diversity and arrangement of housing styles creates distinct yet harmonious neighborhoods tied together by public spaces and streets. The new neighborhoods that make up Broad Creek Renaissance consist of over 600 homes in a variety of single-family homes, duplexes, and triplexes. The homes are designed in regional styles – Craftsman, Cape Cod, Traditional/Colonial and Classical – but aesthetically tied to the surrounding neighborhoods to enhance the sense of community.
Areas provided for residents to come together include a lake and parks, walking and biking trails, public library, neighborhood centers, a family fitness and recreation center, and the Grandy Village Community Center on the Elizabeth River (also designed by RRMM).
