Public Safety
Fire and Rescue Headquarters & Station #6.
Suffolk, Virginia
RRMM designed this public safety center for the fast growing King’s Fork area of Suffolk. It contains a 12,500 SF fire station, with the remainder of the 25,109 SF space dedicated to the fire department administrative offices and support spaces, and emergency operations center, and plug-in capability for a backup E-911 center. Within the fire station is a fitness center, 18 individual bunkrooms, a decontamination center, and a large day room and commercial kitchen. Instead of the traditional locker room/shower area, the station offers individual shower rooms with a turn-out gear room. The station includes three extended length drive-through apparatus bays.
This facility is located on a four-acre site on King’s Fork Road, adjacent to both King’s Fork Middle School and King’s Fork High School – both RRMM designed projects. The new public safety center was designed to be architecturally similar to both of the schools.
