Gunston Fire Station.
Fairfax County, Virginia
The new Gunston Fire Station #20 will be a 16,516 SF freestanding structure. The building includes a four-bay apparatus space and a two-story administration and dormitory space. A single-story, 289 SF outdoor storage outbuilding will be located behind the station. Gunston Fire Station is a replacement for an existing station on the eastern portion of the lot, which will be demolished upon the new station’s completion.
All roofs will be topped with PV panels in service of pursuing net-zero energy status. The building is clad in stone veneer, brick, and high-pressure laminate (HPL) paneling resembling wood, all of which highlight the building’s distinct volumes.
