The new 182,000 SF River City Middle School replaced two other middle schools – Elkhardt Thompson Middle School and Thompson Middle School. RRMM worked closely with the local Richmond community in a public process of community engagement and neighborhood meetings. The school’s design was ultimately chosen by Richmond parents, students, teachers, and other city residents.
The Richmond School Board opted to utilize a prototypical design for River City Middle School in order to save money. The design is based on another RRMM design for Colonel Fred Cherry in Suffolk, Virginia.
