Tidewater Community College: Parking Garage.
Chesapeake, Virginia
RRMM designed the a new, three-story (four-level) parking structure to house 1,200 cars of the Chesapeake campus of Tidewater Community College. The design required architectural treatment to all sides since it is highly visible from the campus and a nearby residential neighborhood. The design is contemporary and the materials are concrete, thin brick, and metal to blend with the architectural style of the campus. The three-bay-wide garage includes a speed ramp at one end. This parking concept permits each floor level to be flat for ease of pedestrian access and to eliminate blind spots, promoting visual security.
Although the garage design was exempt from LEED certification, sustainable strategies were incorporated where feasible including cut-off light fixtures and motion-activated lighting.
