Virginia Institute of Marine Science: Facility Management Building.
Gloucester Point, Virginia
The Facility Management Building is a new stand-alone building located on Virginia Institute of Marine Science’s Gloucester Point campus. The new, one-story building is 15,000 SF and houses the administrative offices for the facilities director and staff, safety director and staff, carpentry shop, MEP shop, automotive shop, housekeeping shop, grounds shop, and shipping & receiving. The new building is sited in the heart of the research section of campus with a close proximity to the necessary utilities throughout VIMS.
Since all shop spaces needed to border the facilities courtyard, the facilities building has an ‘L’ shaped footprint. This allows all shops to have garage door access to the courtyard behind. The VIMS Facility Management Building is the first LEED Silver facility maintenance building in the Commonwealth.
